(UPI) -- Police in Roswell, Ga. rescued two dogs locked in a car where the temperature had soared to 167 degrees and caught it all on video.

"A concerned citizen noticed a dog suffering in a hot car and called 911. The first officer arrived in 18 seconds. What you are about to see is actual bodycam footage of the rescue and medical treatment of two dogs suffering from heat stroke," the Roswell Police Department said in a statement Wednesday.

The dogs were locked inside a black car that was parked in the parking lot of a strip mall and movie theater during the middle of the day. The windows were rolled down approximately three inches. The officer's bodycam footage shows one of the dogs barking while inside the car as the officer is seen using a handheld thermometer to take the temperature inside the car. It reads 167 degrees.

The officers then open the door of the vehicle, restrain one of the dogs and notice another dog inside.

"The dog was very aggressive from heat and fear. A second dog had crawled underneath the front seat to escape the direct sunlight," police said.

Both dogs are safely removed from the vehicle and officers said one of them had suffered a heat stroke.

The Roswell Fire Department arrived on the scene "to provide urgent medical care to cool off and hydrate the overheated animals," according to the video.

At that point, the dogs had been in the car for more than an hour while the owner was inside the movie theater.

The owner was not named by police but the video states that she was charged with two counts of animal cruelty. The dogs were also confiscated as "evidence."

"I think we got here just in time to save these animals' lives," the officer said.
