(UPI) A kitten in Texas was rescued by police after hiding underneath a vehicle to avoid traffic at a busy intersection on Tuesday.

Arlington Police Chief Will Johnson shared photos of the tiny orange kitten that was removed from inside a car tire after a driver flagged down a nearby officer.

"911 call where a car hit a kitten," Johnson wrote. [Arlington Police Department] cops take off a tire of the car and save the kitten. Great job.

Officers Rob Phillips and Austin Kidd pulled over to help the driver they believed was having car trouble when the driver explained a kitten had run underneath his vehicle.

The two officers approached the vehicle to find the orange tabby lodged between the rear wheel and brake rotor, where the scrappy kitten refused to budge.

"Phillips and I approached the kitten to remove him from the road, but he was very aggressive and tried to bite us," Kidd told The Dallas Morning News.

Kidd called animal control to help remove the kitten that eventually sprinted underneath another vehicle stopped in traffic.

Officers stopped the car and animal control eventually managed to free the kitten, before taking it to an animal shelter.

The kitten was not injured in the incident, but may have experienced some heat exhaustion and dehydration while out in the hot sun.
