(UPI) The London Fire Brigade and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals helped rescue a fox cub found trapped and freezing in a drain.

The fire brigade was called to the area in Lewisham after receiving reports of an animal crying from inside the drain and RSPCA Animal Collection Officer Abbie Fright joined to assist them.

"The fire crew was called by a member of the public who thought a puppy was stuck in the drain," Fright said. When the crew arrived they quickly established that it was, in fact, a little fox cub who had fallen into the drain and couldn't get out.

Fright arrived at the scene to find the nearly five-week-old cub was unable to move its legs as it was petrified by fear and the freezing cold, so she administered oxygen and wrapped the cub in a blanket to warm it up.

"The fire and rescue service were wonderful and I'd like to say a big thank you to them for their help in rescuing this little cub," Fright said. Had she have been in that drain for much longer I'm almost certain she wouldn't have made it.

The tiny fox cub, who was nicknamed Dinah after a well-known drainage company, was taken in by volunteers at The Fox Project where staff said she is doing well.

"She's regained a bit of energy and has begun to eat with some enthusiasm," a staff member said. Luckily, she doesn't seem to have an underlying problems so our plan is to introduce her to a new 'family' group of cubs around a similar age over the coming days.
