(UPI) A leopard in South Africa learned a valuable lesson about attacking porcupines -- but not before receiving quill wounds from two of them.

A video filmed by Donovan Piketh and posted to the Kruger Sightings channel on YouTube shows a leopard stalking two porcupines that appear to be less than terrified of the big cat.

"We were following the leopard as it was just walking along when my friend spotted the 2 porcupines walking towards the leopard," Piketh wrote. As soon as the leopard saw them it changed into stalking mode and we knew something was going to happen.

The video shows the leopard give up on the first porcupine after finding itself on the wrong side of its quills. The predator makes an attempt to strike the second porcupine but ends up with a face-full of sharpness.

"The leopard gave chase after the one porcupine, and then he focused his efforts on tackling the second," Piketh wrote. "He was definitely the one that came off worse for wear that day while the porcupines managed to scurry off unscathed.

"The leopard needed to spend a good few minutes to get the quills out of him. Eventually, the leopard gave up trying to get the last of the porcupine's quills out and walked off into the bush," he said.
