OAKVILLE, Ontario (UPI) -- Cupid, a rescued two-legged puppy in Canada, was fitted with a ski-shaped pair of prosthetic legs.

The Dog Rescuers Inc. shared a photo of Cupid posing with doctors after being fitted with prosthetic legs for the first time at a local hospital.

"Cupid with his favorite techs and vet Dr. Dev at Fourth Line Animal Hospital," the group said.

The eight-week-old puppy was born without legs and rescued after being found tied in a bag and left behind a Toronto building.

"The challenge for him is that he's never walked before," Janice Olynich, a certified prosthetist and owner of PawsAbility, told the CBC. It's not going to be instinctive for him to put these on and to immediately start walking. He needs strength, he needs balance, he needs co-ordination.

Cupid's prosthetics feature a suspension vest that hoists up the two aluminum struts covered in leather and a ski-like device or "training wheels" on each leg that allow him to push himself forward.

"I think everybody had a big gulp when he took that first movement forward. He is the sweetest boy and he has got such a happy disposition," Joan Znidarec, president and co-founder of The Dog Rescuers Inc. told Global News.

The puppy will wear his prosthetics for brief periods throughout each day to become familiar with his legs and will be put up for adoption by the end of February.

"We're looking for a perfect fit for him, someone who obviously understands his needs," Znidarec said. He's going to have a happy little life.
