WALSALL, England (UPI) -- A kitten in England was rescued after its head was stuck in a drainage hole at the bottom of a rolling trash bin.

West Midlands Fire Service shared a photo of the black and white kitten whose head was seen poking out of the bottom of a dumpster.

"This little fella was feline a lot better after we got him out of this tight spot in Walsall last night!" West Midlands Fire Service said.

The RSPCA was initially called to the scene, but Animal Collection Officer Cara Gibbon determined the kitten was stuck too tightly inside the hole and contacted the fire department.

"We don't know how long the poor kitten had been there for, but rubbish had been piled on top of him and he was clearly distressed," Gibbon said. I can only assume that there was some food in there which he could smell, which led to him getting trapped like this.

Firefighters used a blade to cut the bottom of the dumpster until the hole was wide enough to pull the kitten through to safety.

"Thankfully he was not injured. He wasn't wearing a collar and isn't microchipped so we believe he was a stray." Gibbon said. We have named him Dusty and he is now being looked after at our animal center in Birmingham.

The RSPCA encouraged people to ensure their garbage bins were closed properly.

"If there is food in a bin and a cat can get in there, then there is a chance that it will – so please make sure your outside bins are secure," Gibbon said.
