UNIONTOWN, Pa. (UPI) -- A massive spool of wire caused havoc for drivers on a Pennsylvania highway after falling off the back of a truck.

Driver David Cole, from Alabama, shared cellphone video with KDKA of the giant wooden spool as it rolled down the highway.

"Not in all my traveling, I've never seen nothing like that. Seen quite a few accidents, but nothing quite like that," he said.

The spool appeared to fall off a trailer traveling down Route 40 toward Uniontown, Penn. before rolling toward oncoming traffic and passing several cars.

"As I come around the corner I see a spool of wire heading down the opposing lane," he told Fox 6. It was probably eight to 10 feet wide and I'd say just guessing a couple thousand pounds. Pretty good size roll of wire. I was probably going 20 mph and it was leaving me way behind.

No cars were struck by the runaway spool as several drivers slowed down and moved out of the way to avoid its path.

"They were starting, some of them starting to get off the side of the road as the roll of wire started getting sideways," Cole said.

The spool curved into the median after traveling a short distance and ultimately toppled over and came to a stop after hitting a guard rail.

"We do a lot of traveling and hauling. That's key, make sure your load is secured. Obviously, they didn't have the right equipment there," Cole said. Luckily, everybody was okay, but it was pretty crazy.
