In Fashon: Shoe-Ins for Spring
Time to step out of those boots and slide into some sleek sandals? Well, don't flip or flop quite so fast! This spring, boots are made for walking right back into your wardrobe. Yes, even knee-highs! And there are so many more "shoe-ins" for putting some spring into your step this season. When you don't want to invest in expensive new clothes, consider adding a new pair of shoes to your closet for an instant change of fashion pace. Here are 10 trends to move you fashion forward this spring:
-- About those boots: Boots have become a classic year-round trend, and even though you may want to stash the heavy-duty black boots, there are plenty of ways to kick up a lighter look with some spring favorites: snakeskin booties, slouchy suedes and colorful leathers. The best warm-weather boots are embossed with animal prints that will keep you walking on the wild side all season long.
-- And then there was Mary Jane: The old-fashioned Mary Jane has grown up and is now a sophisticated high heel with updated colors. Think aqua, pink, tangerine and more. Wear them with tights or socks for even more "punkish" fun.
-- Do the thong shoe song: Traditional flip-flops will always be our go-tos for easy breezy spring and summer style, but the trendiest thongs this time around are much more versatile, sporting dressed-up casual elegance with thicker straps and square toes. These will be your new wear-with-everything shoes, from denim shorts to cocktail dresses.
-- Slip into mules: Slides have become another go-to shoe trend for warm weather dressing. This year, update your footwear wardrobe with a pair of metallic mules to spark up flare jeans, maxiskirts or shirtdresses. The square toe is another new detail to check out.
-- Crossover to the sporty life: The "crossover" trend takes off with sport sandals inspiring athletic silhouettes with the polish of a leather flat. Think shower shoes you can wear to work. Check out the latest versions of the classic Birkenstock sandals, softened up in rose pink, dusty blue and emerald green nubuck leathers.
-- Rise up: Experience a new season at a higher altitude. Platforms are making a comeback with their '70s style, teamed up with wide-leg pants and long, flowing skirts. A taller shoe paired with a longer silhouette is one of spring's freshest looks.
-- Sneak it in: The "Dad sneaker" continues to be a favorite casual footwear trend. Its chunky profile hits the streets with pantsuits, dresses and athleisure gear. This year, the sneaker goes way beyond the white classics and into the space age. Look for colorful graphic designs to launch you into a whole new atmosphere of chic.
-- Be glad for gladiators: Take a fashion warrior stance, and tie on a gladiator sandal this spring. From ankle wraps to leggy lace-ups, these strappy sandals are one of the best buys of the season. They are available at a wide variety of price points from a host of labels. Espadrilles are another way to get a leg up on spring and summer.
-- Just loaf around: With the oversized menswear strutting down the runways, it makes sense that classic utilitarian loafers and Oxfords would also make an entrance into our wardrobes. Watch for penny loafers to be even more of a trend next fall.
-- Jewelry for your feet: "Shoellery" is one of the hottest trends in footwear, and that means shoes covered with "extras" like sparkling gemstones, crystal shoe straps, big buckles and velvet bows. Who says you can't have a fling with a little shoe bling? It's spring!
