UAW endorses Kamala Harris for president

WASHINGTON — The executive board of the United Auto Workers union voted Wednesday afternoon to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris in her 2024 White House bid.
The union — a key group within American organized labor, the auto industry and battleground Michigan — had featured prominently in President Joe Biden's administration and his now-shelved reelection effort. It figures to do the same for Harris in the remaining 97 days before Election Day.
“We stand at a crossroads in this country. We can put a billionaire back in office who stands against everything our union stands for, or we can elect Kamala Harris who will stand shoulder to shoulder with us in our war on corporate greed," UAW President Shawn Fain said in a statement.
The union also announced that members would participate with Harris during an appearance in Metro Detroit on Wednesday, Aug. 7. The rally will be one of Harris' first after she makes her highly anticipated choice for a running mate.
"This campaign is bringing together people from all walks of life, building a movement that can defeat Donald Trump at the ballot box," Fain added, referencing the Republican presidential nominee he has often traded barbs with. "For our one million active and retired members, the choice is clear: We will elect Kamala Harris to be our next President this November.”
