Temps terminated, too

Despite the conversions of thousands of temps to permanent jobs, there has been turbulence with GM and local UAW leaders disagreeing over contract language that's resulted in some temps being let go.

Late Friday night, GM began letting go about 240 temporary workers at Fort Wayne Assembly. The local UAW 2209 told the Free Press the number terminated is actually 228, but GM labor officials stand firm on 240.

Meanwhile, at Saginaw Metal Casting Operations, GM confirms it had to terminate 18 temporary workers on Jan. 10 because of a disagreement with the local UAW over shifting them to regular full-time.
