Can God help me stop making bad decisions?

By Billy Graham, Tribune Content Agency on

Q: My parents tell me I need to stop making bad decisions, because I'm just messing up my life. I guess they're right, but how do I stop? It seems like everything I do turns out wrong. -- B.McC.

A: Later in your letter you list some of the things that have gone wrong in your life -- and your parents are right: You have been a victim of your own bad decisions. Every one of them -- from your series of live-in boyfriends to your problems with the law -- could have been avoided if you'd only made the right decisions.

Does this sound harsh or judgmental? I hope not, because my heart goes out to you, and I sincerely hope and pray you won't keep going down the wrong road. Instead, my prayer is that you will turn to God and put your life and your future into His hands. God loves you; He loves you so much that He came down to earth in the person of Jesus Christ, who gave His life for you. You need His forgiveness, and you need His wisdom. By a simple prayer of faith, you can give your life to Jesus today -- and I pray you will.

Then learn to commit every decision to God, and to seek His will concerning it. In addition, get in a church where you can grow closer to Jesus, and also can learn how He wants you to live from God's Word, the Bible. Jesus said, "Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock" (Matthew 7:24).

Ask God also to help you learn from your mistakes, and to give you friends who can help you. The Bible says, "The tongue of the wise brings healing" (Proverbs 12:18).
