Ask Amy: Father-in-law’s rudeness might be medical

By Amy Dickinson, Tribune Content Agency on

Dear Amy: This is in response to “Exasperated Mom,” who couldn’t get her teenage kids to help around the house.

One of the best ideas I’ve seen is a board on the wall that reads “Want today’s Wi-Fi password?” Followed by a list of daily chores, like “clean your room, clean the bathroom, unload the dishwasher, etc. The chores can rotate to include daily, weekly, or occasional tasks.

When the kids text you the photos of their efforts, they get the Wi-Fi password texted to them, or turned on.

No Arguments

Dear No Arguments: The best answer is to start them young, with the understanding that the family functions best as a team.

Otherwise, absolutely – a little Wi-Fi coercion might be effective.
