  • Masked grief
  • Chronic grief

For example, anticipatory grief encompasses the emotions associated with an expected or impending loss. Adjusting

Adjusting to a new normal may happen via instrumental or intuitive grieving. Instrumental grieving is rooted more in control and action, whereas intuitive grieving is rooted more in open and outward emotional processing.

A counselor will assist in navigating through either a problem-solving lens or an outward emotional lens. No one approach is better than the other. Each person grieves in their own way. A grief counselor is there to guide you through the emotions needed to cope.
