(UPI) A Colorado spin class was in the final hours Monday morning of an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for longest static cycling class.

The 25 cyclists at Cyclebar in Littleton started their attempt Sunday morning with an aim toward continuing their class for 28 hours, enough to beat the previous record of 26 hours.

The record attempt is being live-streamed on YouTube.

Instructor Megan Hottman, aka the Cyclist Lawyer, said the goal of the attempt is to break a Guinness record and raise awareness of cycling safety issues.

"Bikes make us happier, healthier people, and improve the communities we live in," Hottman told KUSA-TV. If cycling were safer, and if more people felt they could transport themselves by bike, or exercise by bike, safely, it could change our entire society.
