(UPI) A California man returning home after a wildfire ended up helping rescue a horse that apparently jumped into a swimming pool to escape the flames.

Jeff Hill said he returned to his neighborhood in Paradise after evacuating from the path of the Camp Fire and was checking on a neighbor's home when he found the horse trapped in a backyard swimming pool.

"She was all caught up in the pool cover but her being suspended by it prevented her from drowning," Hill wrote in a Facebook post.

Hill and a group of helpers were able to rescue the horse from her predicament.

"We scrambled to unhook the pool cover and pulled her to the shallow end where we guided her up the steps," Hill wrote. She got out, shook off, loved on us for a few minutes as a thank you and walked off.
