(UPI) The hosts of ABC's Live with Kelly and Ryan are Guinness World Record holders after an on-air "elephant's toothpaste" science experiment.

Hosts Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest were joined Monday morning by teacher and author Science Bob, who demonstrated an "elephant's toothpaste" chemical reaction, which causes colorful foam to emerge from a tube due to the mixing of sodium iodide and hydrogen peroxide.

Science Bob demonstrated a small version of the experiment before embarking with the hosts on a large-scale attempt, which involved two buckets of sodium iodide being poured into 10.6 gallons of hydrogen peroxide.

The result was hundreds of gallons of foam shooting out of a fountain measuring 461 cubic feet and 967 cubic inches.

The experiment was certified by Guinness as the world's largest elephant's toothpaste fountain.
