(UPI) A snake was ejected from a Texas mall after it apparently fell through the roof near the entrance to the facility.

Witnesses said the snake appeared to have fallen through a hole in the roof at Memorial City Mall, feet away from The Square, during the circus performance that takes place every Thursday at the mall.

Officials said the slithering shopper was not a part of the act.

Witness Guillermina Rodriguez recorded video as a group of brave individuals worked to get the snake into a bag so they could transport it outside.

Rodriguez said she initially thought the snake was a fake.

"It looked like a python. That's what people were saying, but I'm not sure what kind of snake it was. And then, you know -- once the security came and the crew from the mall came, they put it in a plastic bag and took it away," she told KTRK-TV.

Commenters looking at photos of the serpent posted to social media suggested it was a western rat snake, which are non-venomous and not considered to be dangerous to humans.
