(UPI) A Pennsylvania father rescued a deer that found itself unable to walk on the ice of a frozen river while his son held a safety rope and filmed.

Michael Konopka ventured out onto the Mon River in Peters Township when he and his son spotted a young deer that was apparently stranded on the ice.

Video recorded by Konopka's son, Christian, during the rescue operation shows the ice begin to crack under his feet as he walks out onto the river.

"I said, 'If I fall through, pull me as tight as you can.' Definitely, I'm not going to lie, I was scared," hunter Michael Konopka told WTAE-TV. It's thick ice, but you fall through, the current takes you down and you're looking up taking your last couple of breaths for a deer.

Konopa said he and his son watched the deer for a time to make sure it was able to walk away after the rescue.
