(UPI) A direct flight from New York to Seattle become indirect when the toilets stopped working and the plane had to stop in Montana for a bathroom break.

Delta Flight 453, a Boeing 747 that departed on Saturday from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, was diverted to Billings while en route to Seattle after the plane's toilets stopped functioning during the approximately six-hour flight.

A Delta incident report obtained by the Billings Gazette states the toilets "ceased functioning, with passengers queuing up and indicating they needed to visit the toilet."

"All toilets were full and passengers needed to 'go really bad,'" the report says.

The plane taxied to a cargo area due to a lack of available gates and a stairway was rolled out so passengers could "disembark to find relief of built-up pressures," the Delta report states.

The plane's toilets were serviced during the unscheduled stop and the vehicle was refueled so it could take off once the passengers were back aboard.
