(UPI) Residents of a Louisiana neighborhood are trying to determine the origins of an unusual visitor -- an iguana.

Andrew Weber said his grandmother found the 2-1/2-foot iguana wandering around her front yard in the Southdowns area of Baton Rouge.

"She told me she almost stepped on something. I walked out and it was so unexpected to see an iguana," Weber told WBRZ-TV.

"She said she found an iguana I thought it would be a few inches long," neighbor Jeanne Fellows said.

Fellows posted a photo of the lizard on a local lost pets Facebook group in the hopes of finding its owner.

"It looks healthy, it looks like someone's pet," Fellows said. I certainly don't think it lives out here.

Fellows said the iguana will be cared for by the Louisiana State University veterinary school until its owner can be found.
