(UPI) A wandering moose caused traffic headaches in Ontario when it wandered into a city and decided to take a swim in a lake.

North Bay Police said the wayward moose wandered into the city early Wednesday morning and police soon started receiving complaints of traffic delays on Memorial Drive, a major road.

"Cars were stopping to look at the moose that was in the water in Lake Nipissing," North bay Police Staff Sgt. Rick Dubeau told CBC News.

Dubeau said police ended up closing the road to keep the spectators away from the moose.

"It was just causing the moose to be nervous," he said. The moose eventually moved out around 5:20 in the afternoon on his own when the sun started coming down and there were less people in the area.

Shocked onlookers captured photos and videos of the bathing moose.

"I think it was possibly confused where it was," witness Mike Burman told The Weather Network. I'm an avid hunter, so I know how they kind of react. I'm not sure if it came out of the woods, north, where there is crown land.
