(UPI) A group of men banded together in Thailand to pry open a concrete sewer and rescue a pair of stranded kittens.

Witnesses sad they heard the kittens calling from the sewer under a concrete sidewalk in Sarabui on Nov. 10, leading some bystanders to retrieve tools including a power drill, metal poles and a pickaxe.

A video of the rescue shows the men using the tools to pry open the concrete sewer covering before climbing inside.

The men rescued two kittens from inside the sewer.

''Even street cats love their lives and fear to die," witness Pra Khemphong said. "They have the same feelings that we have as humans. I would like to thanks, everyone who helped to rescue the cats. The people who helped to rescue the kittens should be very proud. That is their good deed of the day. Every life matters no matter how small."

Khemphong said the felines were taken to a local animal charity to be cared for until permanent homes can be found.
