(UPI) A $100 Maryland Lottery scratch-off winner who was envious of the next player's $500 prize decided to buy another ticket -- and won $50,000.
The Maryland Lottery said the 54-year-old Sidman, Pa., man bought a $2,000,000 Fortune scratch-off ticket for $30 from the Dash In store in Upper Marlboro, Md., and returned to the store when he discovered the ticket was a $100 winner.
The man said he cashed in his ticket and learned the person who bought the next ticket after him had bested his jackpot with a $500 prize.
The man decided to take another try and bought another of the same ticket from the same store, a decision that earned him $50,000.
"This is the luckiest I've ever been," the man said.
