Kuwait busts pigeon smuggling drugs in tiny backpack

(UPI) Kuwait customs officials announced the capture of a pigeon found carrying 178 pills of a popular party drug in a tiny backpack.
The officials said customs agents were tracking the pigeon after it arrived in Kuwait from Iraq and the bird was captured atop a building near the customs building.
The pigeon's tiny backpack was found to contain 178 pills that were identified as ketamine, an anesthetic that has gained popularity as a party drug similar to ecstasy.
Customs investigators said they were aware that pigeons were being used to transport drugs into the country, but the captured bird was the first to be caught in the act.
Brazil's Department of Penitentiary Administration announced in February that a pigeon had been intercepted on its way to deliver a cellphone to prison inmates. The pigeon had been outfitted with a special vest designed to help it carry objects, investigators said.
