(UPI) A worker at an Alabama business captured video of an emu running wild in the streets and even holding up traffic on a stretch of highway.

Amanda Stephens, who works at Sand Mountain Electric Cooperative in Rainsville, posted a video to Facebook showing the emu evading several pursuers Friday outside of the business.

"It was just running around. Don't know where it came from. Everybody was trying to catch it. What was I doing? I was laughing," Stephens told WAFF-TV.

She said the emu repeatedly ventured onto Highway 35, temporarily blocking traffic.

Eric Samples, who also works at Sand Mountain Electric, said he tried unsuccessfully to lasso the large bird.

"I'm going to say it went on for 20 minutes. I mean, after I saw I couldn't do anything with it, I just kinda sat back and enjoyed the show," Samples said.

Police arrived on the scene to block traffic and assist with the capture attempt, but it was unclear whether the bird was eventually caught.

"Last time I seen it, it was behind Burger King. I don't know if it was getting something to eat or what, but it was cutting a shuck," Samples said.
