(UPI) A Texas storm chaser combined two of his greatest loves by proposing to his girlfriend in front of an oncoming tornado.

Alex Bartholomew shared photos as he got down on one knee to propose to Britney Fox Cayton in a field in McLean while a twister raged in the distance.

"Wow what a day. 2 (maybe 3 tornadoes), great storms and most importantly she said YES!" Bartholomew wrote on Facebook.

Bartholomew told Clayton they were going on a routine storm chase, while he was actually planning the extravagant proposal.

"I had no idea, it was complete shock," she told Inside Edition. I just nodded because I couldn't [get] words out I was tearing up so bad.

Bartholomew enlisted the help of his friend Jason Cooley who managed to capture photos of the massive storm behind the proposal.

"I wanted to get the tornado right in between them," Cooley said. I was worried the tornado was going to disappear. The tornado waited for us. The scene was perfect.

The tornado appeared to be about two miles away from the couple and was likely one of two reported by the Storm Prediction Center near McLean, neither of which caused any damage.

Bartholomew said he was "overjoyed" following the proposal, which exceeded his expectations.

"I really wanted to combine my two greatest loves into one shot," he said. It was better than what I imagined.
