(UPI) A 10-foot alligator was spotted repeatedly crossing a busy Florida road during rush hour to pass between two bodies of water.

The alligator was seen during rush hour Thursday afternoon crossing the intersection of U.S. Highway 441 and State Road 19 in Tavares.

"I looked up and saw this huge head...just wobbling around and I was like 'What?!' so I looked out the window and started yelling to everybody, 'There's a gator!' I automatically started taking pictures and videos!" witness Carol Johnson told WOFL-TV.

Witnesses said the alligator repeatedly walked back and forth from a pond on one side of the road to a wooded area on the other side connected to the Harris Chain of Lakes.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials said lowered water levels may have caused the alligator to go searching for food outside of its usual haunts.

The alligator's repeated crossings caused a stir at nearby business Lake Auto and Tire.

"We might change our name to Gator Tire or Florida Gator tire or something! I don't know!" employee McGyver Smith said.

Ralph Smith, the business' owner, joked on Facebook that his shop is "the tire store where all Gators shop. As well as the less ignorant Noles, Hurricanes and Knights!"
