SUNGULWANE, South Africa (UPI) -- A safari group in South Africa captured video of an aggressive elephant that picked up a large tree branch and threw it at their Jeep.

The video, filmed Feb. 14, shows the tour group stopped in their open-top vehicle during a game drive in the Sungulwane region.

The bull elephant shows signs of aggression toward the group, breaking a tree in an apparent attempt at intimidation.

The elephant picks up a tree branch a few moments later and throws it at the Jeep, nearly striking the people inside.

"The branch almost hit my head, and landed on the passengers seat where luckily no one was sitting," the filmer wrote online.

The filmer said the elephant appeared to be in the throes of musth, a period of increased reproductive hormones in male elephants that often leads to a rise in highly aggressive behavior.
