WASHINGTON (UPI) -- A dedicated woman donned an elaborate disguise to keep a watchful eye over her best friend's first date.

Twitter user Dawsyn Eubanks shared photos of her friend Georgia Hoyer dressed in a hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses and a fake mustache, as she sat behind Eubanks in a restaurant where she was having a first date.

"When your best friend wants to make sure your first date goes well," Eubanks wrote.

The encounter began when Hoyer sent Eubanks a text asking why she had been avoiding her meal.

"Why aren't you eating your food?" Hoyer wrote.

After texting back confused, Eubanks was instructed to turn around where she was met with the sight of Hoyer dressed in the elaborate disguise.

Eubanks assured the stunt was real, although she wished it wasn't, and said the date did wind up going well.

The series of photos was retweeted nearly 200,000 times and received almost 400,000 likes.

Eubanks hoped to parlay the viral story into a trip to visit her "spirit animal" Ellen, while Hoyer expressed pride in her display of friendship.

"I love me," she wrote on Twitter after the stunt went viral.
