TUMWATER, Wash. (UPI) -- The Washington state motorcyclist whose crash into the back of a car that he managed to cling to was caught on camera has shared his own helmet camera footage.

The man, Seth Diechman, was recorded last week crashing into the back of a car on Interstate 5, near Tumwater, and evading injury by sitting on the trunk of the car, which continued a distance down the highway before stopping.

"I was just merging behind slow traffic," Diechman told KOMO-TV. And at the last second he [the driver] blows by me.

He said the car sped up after the crash.

"And as soon as I rolled onto his trunk, he just hit the gas and took off," Diechman said. I grabbed his spoiler with my hand and was banging on the rear window with my hand.

He estimated the car stopped about another quarter mile down the road.

"He looked shocked I was still attached to the back of his car," he said.

Witnesses told the Washington State Patrol that Diechman was driving erratically prior to the crash, but the motorcyclist placed the blame squarely on the shoulders of the other driver, who troopers said was intoxicated and didn't have a license of insurance.

"He didn't have any brake lights," Diechman said.

Diechman said he would like a souvenir from the incident -- the car's spoiler.

"That was the one thing that saved my life that day," he said.

No citations have yet been issued in the incident, the Washington State Patrol said.
