CACHE, Utah (UPI) -- A trash collector in Utah stopped to rescue a frozen kitten he discovered during a snowstorm on his route.

Sam McGregor discovered Sue, the freezing kitten, lying on the ground while completing his route and decided to take it to Cache Humane Society in the heated cab of his truck.

"He rushed the kittie into his heated cab and to our shelter, then after his shift came back to check on her," the shelter said.

McGregor was unsure if the kitten would survive, but wrapped her up into his jacket after she looked up at him with her green eyes.

"Honestly, I didn't know if she could pull through," he told The Herald Journal. I reached down to pick her up, and she just looked up at me. I couldn't just leave her like that and put her back in the cold.

Once Sue arrived at Cache Humane Society staff covered her in blankets, placed her on heating pads and provided her with additional fluids.

"It was obvious Sue was out there for a long time," Executive Director Stacey Frisk said. We knew we had to warm her up right away.

Frisk said Sue's time in the wilderness left her hungry and frostbitten, but she had "been such a trooper" since arriving at the shelter.

"Once she was warmed up a little, she was definitely hungry," She said. She blew through two cans of wet cat food in no time. She was so enthusiastic about eating even though she was so exhausted. She even fell asleep in her food bowl.

McGregor went to check up on Sue following his shift and insisted he was simply motivated to help out the animal in need.

"Everyone is telling me what a good thing I did and calling me a hero," he said. I'm not anything like that. I just saw someone who needed my help.
