CANBERRA, Australia (UPI) -- Get a firsthand look at what it's like to be a sea turtle swimming among the Great Barrier Reef thanks to a cleverly placed camera by the folks at the World Wildlife Fund.

The organization posted a video to its Facebook page Thursday as part of an effort to draw attention to a dumping ban at the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Australia. The camera, which appears to have been secured to the shell of a sea turtle, records as the animal slowly glides through the waters of the reef.

The organization said a full ban on dumping at the reef "should come to fruition in a matter of months" in response to pressure on Australia by UNESCO.

"The UNESCO decision requires Australia to deliver 'effective and sustained protection' of the reef from threats including reckless industrialization and pollution," the WWF website says.

Australia is required to file a report on its progress in 18 months.

"Australia has promised to prioritize the health of the reef over damaging activities like dumping dredge spoil," said Marco Lambertini, director general of WWF International.

"UNESCO will be watching to ensure that the condition of the reef improves in coming years, as will the 550,000 WWF campaign supporters and millions of people worldwide who are deeply concerned and want to see a stop to industrial destruction of the Great Barrier Reef."
