Planetary Power Struggle

Holiday Mathis on

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). The gentle stirring of the trees isn't much, but it's an indicator of the magnificent storm that's coming. Pay attention to the metaphoric representation of this in your life today.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Any fool can cheat when dealt a bad hand of cards. It's more important to play fairly when you have a winning hand. Hold yourself to higher standards in regard to those areas in which you find yourself advantaged.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). You've already formed an opinion about it. There aren't so many who have! Therefore, if someone else seconds that opinion, you'll not only agree but also consider that person to be a sort of kindred.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (Oct. 9). Try not to impose too many rules on yourself going into this new chapter, because you're in a rebellious mood! Your energy is high, and you're ready for challenge, not restriction. Changes at work bring more fun and greater balance to your life. Expect exciting family additions. Financial highs: now, November and June. Cancer and Pisces adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 6, 20, 4, 44 and 19.

ASTROLOGY OF COLUMBUS DAY: In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue. It was in this week, of that year, that a series of mistakes and miscalculations led to the "discovery" that would alter the course of world history. It was, in reality, nothing new. The Norse explorer Leif Erikson had already been to North America centuries earlier, and possibly other Europeans had, as well. Oscar Wilde later reported, "America had often been discovered before Columbus, but it had always been hushed up."

It is interesting to note that on Oct. 12, 1492, when Christopher Columbus and his Castilian crew reached the shore of an island in the present-day Bahamas, the sun was the only planet in the congenial, balanced and fair sign of Libra. The moon was in Cancer, representing the concept of "home" -- a concept that would, after that fateful day, be forever altered for indigenous people and explorers alike. Neptune, the planet of dreams, was in Sagittarius -- the realm of travel, adventure, exploration and new worlds.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Every year on Oct. 9, fans gather at the Strawberry Fields memorial in New York's Central Park to celebrate the birth and mourn the loss of the iconic musician and poet John Lennon. Lennon was born under the intelligent, altruistic Aquarius moon. His natal Mercury's being in Scorpio indicates piercing wit and a talent for creating mystery. His Venus and Neptune's being in detailed Virgo represents tireless passion for his lifework.
