White to Play and Mate in Three

Pete Tamburro on

Published in Chess Puzzles

Our second miniature of the week. Now you have even less to work with, but you will find that you'll still have to work. One of my favorites from Cheron, the great endgame writer.

Solution:

1.Nf5 Bxh8 [1...Bb2 2.Rh1+ Bc1 3.Rxc1#; 1...Be1 2.Bg7+ (2.Rh1 Stalemate! Not checkmate.) 2...Bc3 3.Bxc3#] 2.Ng7 Bxg7 3.Bxg7#

We hope the beginners here remembered that the Black pawns always go down the board.
