Solution:
1.Qg5 Sure! Not only does it threaten mate on g7, but the Black queen can't take its White adversary because of Rxe8 mate! The back rank weakness is fatal to Black, and that's the other thing you had to notice. It comes in handy in many a chess game. 1...g6 2.Qh6 Still threatening mate on g7 and the Black queen cannot move to f6 to defend because of that pesky back rank mate. 2...gxf5 3.Rg4+ A sacrifice to clear the way for the attack on h7. 3... fxg4 4.Bxh7+ Note how taking with the bishop and leaving the queen to cover the f8 escape square works much better than taking with the queen on h7. 4...Kh8 5.Bg6+ Kg8 6.Qh7+ Kf8 7.Qxf7# A textbook lesson by Horowitz!
