White to Play and Mate in Three Moves

Pete Tamburro on

Published in Chess Puzzles

Our problemist of the week is an early 20th century American composer, Murray Marble, who only lived to the age of 34. This New Englander, however, did have time to produce some fine problems. Four of his will be presented in the coming days, and it is hoped you will appreciate his work.

Solution

1.Ba1 Kxg2 2.h8Q Kf2 3.Qb2# Very amusing and very imaginative. The bishop has to go to a1 to make way for the h7 pawn to queen and then head to b2.
