We’re making this Comins Mansfield week. This one is an early one—from 1926. There was probably a misprint in the diagram of my resource book because they had no pawn on g4 to prevent the Black king from escaping to f5 in one line (1…Rf1+, so I put it in. It’s a great two-mover.


What I love best about this puzzle are the two different knight promotion moves. 1.Ne4 Bb5 1...Qc7 2.Ng7#; 1...Bd5 2.d8=N#; 1...Rf8+ 2.exf8=N#; 1...Nf7 2.Ng7#; 1...Ba4 2.Qc4#; 1...Qxa6 2.Qd6# 2.Nxc5#
