We’re making this Comins Mansfield week. This mate in two composition won first prize in British Chess Magazine in 1941.


Although White’s pieces seem scattered to the winds, they come together for the two-mover. The key is such an understated move with all the fire power on the board. 1.b3 Qxb3 1...Rxh5 2.Qxa4#; 1...Qxh5 2.Qxa4#; 1...Bxb3 2.Nf7#; 1...Ka5 2.Nc4# 2.Nc4#
