American GM Sam Shankland, who is fast turning into a world championship candidate, almost scored a match win against former world championship match participant. In one game he missed a win here. Can you find how he should have attacked here?


It takes a bit to work this out: 1.Rxg7+ Kxg7 2.Ng4 f5 3.Qh6+ Kf7 4.Nf6 you have to see the knight move from the original position. It is a real thorn in black’s side 4… Qb4 5.c3 Qa4 6.Rg1 Ke7 7.Rg7+ Kd8 8.Rxb7 Ng6 9.Qxg6 Nd6 10.exd6 Rxd6 11.Qg8+ Qe8 12.Qxe8#
