Well, you can’t complain about these odds! This is a multi-task problem. Can you mate Black in three moves? Can you mate Black with 1.e4 in five moves?


1.d4 Kh5 [1...Kg4 2.e4+ Kh4 3.g3#] 2.Qd3 Kh4 [2...Kg4 3.Qh3#]3.Qh3# A confession: Even with a computer, I can’t get a mate in five moves or less with 1.e4. Anyone who can produce a FORCED mate in five moves starting with 1.e4 will be prominently praised here.
