White to Play

Pete Tamburro on

Published in Chess Puzzles

Same theme as the last two: White to Play, but the twist is that it is now White and Black cooperating to help Black mate on move five with the rook on h8. This one is devilishly clever. Good luck!

This one drives most people crazy. If you got this, BRAVO!! If you didn’t, as I didn’t when I first encountered it, that 5th move by White was a stroke of genius by whoever created this puzzle: 1.g4 h5 2.Bg2 hxg4 3.Bxb7 Rxh2 4.Nh3 Bxb7 5.0–0 Rh1# And that’s it! Hope you had fun! Try all three on your friends!
