First, an apology for my leaving out two (!) bishops in the last puzzle diagram. My thanks to Amelie Chan and Tony Stornetta for bringing it to my attention. There should be bishops at d3 and e3. Today we’re showing you an old trap in the c3 Sicilian. [You can't afford to play passively and then try to be aggressive against the c3 Sicilian. An old trap that manages to keep happening!

Suetin-Travnicek, 1975 started out: 1.e4 c5 2.c3 d6 3.Nf3 Nc6 4.d4 Bg4 5.d5 Ne5 SEE DIAGRAM 6.Nxe5 Bxd1 7.Bb5+ Qd7 8.Bxd7+ and Black Resigned. That works in another line as well: 1.e4 Nc6 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 Bg4 4.d5 Ne5 5.Nxe5 but it’s a bit more complicated. We’ll go over that next week.
