I just couldn’t leave this form of puzzle, so here’s another one created by the genial genius Dr. Blathy. A king and knight mate Black’s king while starting out against his entire army.

  It takes 13 moves: 1. Kxa8 Ra4 2. Kb7 Ra3 3. Kc8 ( Just wandering up on the white squares (because you want to avoid the bishop check when you hit a dark square) doesn’t do it because the timing is wrong: 3. Kc6 Ra4 4. Kb5 Ra3) 3... Ra4 4. Kd7 Ra3 5. Ke8 Ra4 6. Kf8!! (The Key move as it’s a dark square immune from a bishop check and it also “loses” a move to get to b5) Ra3 7. Kf7 Ra4 8. Ke8 Ra3 9. Kd7 Ra4 10. Kc6 Ra3 11. Kb5 Ra4 (11... a4 12. Kxb4 Bf2 13. Nxd2#) 12. Kxa4 Bg3 13. Nxd2# Another great exercise in logical thinking!
