A fantastic finish by Paul Schmidt in 1946. How many times have you wondered whether a queen sacrifice works? Well, it works here, but can you figure it all out with all the variations?


As nice an example as you can get of how you lure a king out from the castle to attack and mate it! In this case, he even gets to run back! 1.Qh6+ Kxh6 2.hxg6+ Kg5 [2...Kg7 3.Rxh7#] 3.Rh5+ Kxh5 4.f4+ Nxe2 [4...Kh6 5.Rh1+ Kg7 6.Rxh7#] 5.Nf6+ Kh6 6.Rh1+ Kg7 7.Ne8+ Rxe8 8.Rxh7+ Kf8 [8...Kf6 9.Rxf7#]9.Rxf7#
