We're going to spend a good deal of time in the coming weeks on miniatures. You'll get the whole game score with the key position. Looking through an old favorite by Chernev, 1000 Best Short Games of Chess, inspired me to share these. 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.Bc4 Nxe4 4.Nc3 [The dangerous Boden-Kieseritsky Gambit.] 4...Nc5 [Normal is 4...Nxc3 5.dxc3 f6 (5...d6? 6.Nxe5!) 6.0–0 Nc6 7.Re1 with a difficult game for both sides.] 5.Nxe5 f6 and now, as a hint, Taylor, in 1862, mated his opponent on b3 on move 13! (See diagram)

6.Qh5+ g6 7.Bf7+ Ke7 8.Nd5+ Kd6 9.Nc4+ Kc6 10.Nb4+ Kb5 11.a4+ Kxb4 12.c3+ Kb3 13.Qd1#
