White to Play

I can’t make you start from the beginning in this gold level ending; however, I can tell you that the secret to mating with just a bishop and knight and king is to drive the Black king to the OPPOSITE corner of the square color of your bishop and then walk him along the eighth rank until you get a position in the diagram. Note the king is confined to two squares while the bishop and knight organize the coup de grace. In 40 years of tournament play I only saw this once. Two titled players were going at it, but the fellow with the two pieces was not quite getting it. His opponent, embarrassed by all the spectators, resigned rather than go through more torture. I would have made him mate me!
