White to Play

Pete Tamburro on

Published in Chess Puzzles

A mate in three, composed by Adolf Anderssen nine years before he became world champ in 1851.

Solution:

A great example of a waiting move! The bishop is forced to move and interfere with the rook’s being able to check the king when White plays Rg6. 1.Kb1! Bh5 2.Rg6 and mate next move.
