Black to Play
Published in Chess Puzzles
This position from Sackus-Borysiak, Warsaw, 1975, is a wonderful example of a sustained attack. Black sees how to infiltrate the White king position and then use open lines to chase the king to resignation.
Solution:
A stunning pure mate (each king flight square attacked only once) comes from 1...Nb3+ 2.axb3 [2.Kc2 Bf5+ 3.Rd3 Rxd3] 2...Qa1+ 3.Nb1 Bf5 4.Rxd6 Qxb1+ 5.Kd2 Qxb2+ 6.Ke3 Nd5+ 7.Rxd5 Bd4+ (White resigned here) 8.Rxd4 cxd4#
