White to Play

Pete Tamburro on

Published in Chess Puzzles

I hope you’ve enjoyed this week’s problems that have featured very little material on the board. Even positions with few pieces can require some tough thinking. This study by A. Mouterde is quite challenging. You will notice right away that the White queen is pinned. Have fun!

Solution:

1.Rd3+ Kc8 2.Rc3+ Kb8 [2...Kd8 3.Qc7#] 3.Qc7+ Ka8 4.Qa5+ Kb8 5.Qb4+ Ka8 6.Qa3+ Kb8 7.Qb2+ Ka8 8.Ra3# A wonderful exercise in “unpinning”
