White’s in bad shape here, but can White find a saving continuation?

This is a great example of why you should know certain endgame position. White draws with 1.Rd8+ Rc8 2.Rxc8+ Kxc8 3.Ba6 bxa6 [3...Kc7 4.Bxb7 Bxb7] 4.Kb2 Kb7 5.Ka1 and in both cases the White king cannot be nudged from a1 and b1 because Black’s bishop is the opposite color of a1. This concept has saved your columnist on more than one occasion. Know it!
